The Humane Society of Union County, Inc. (HSUC) is pleased to announce that the Monroe Low-Cost Spay/Neuter Clinic, located at 4015 Waxhaw Hwy (Hwy 75), Monroe, NC  28112,  is now taking appointments!  HSUC planned and diligently worked towards the opening of this clinic for a couple of years and officially opened for business on August 15, 2011.  The huge pet over-population problem and the alarming number of companion animals being unnecessarily euthanized every single day were the main driving forces behind our desire to start up a low cost spay/neuter clinic.  Our goal will be to spay and/or neuter 25 animals a day/five days a week.  In a couple of years, Union County and surrounding areas should start to see a big difference in the number of unwanted puppies and kittens being born.  For a little over two years now, HSUC Board Members, HSUC volunteers and many local businesses have devoted, without pay, countless hours of their time, energy, expertise, knowledge, materials and services to make this happen.

 Important information about our clinic:

The Monroe Low-Cost Spay/Neuter Clinic only offers vaccines and testing at the time of a scheduled spay/neuter surgical appointment. NO vaccines, test or other services are available without a spay/neuter appointment. Please see your regular veterinarian if you are in need of these services for your already altered pet.

Your Female Dog/Cat Will Be Tattooed
A small green line will be placed next to the dog or cat's incision site.  The tattoo applied is a symbol recognized by most veterinarians indicating the dog/cat has already been altered.  This is done to prevent them from possibly undergoing a second unnecessary surgical procedure.  Tattooing is a mandatory part of our services and not optional.
Thank You to all the volunteers and people who donated to make this clinic happen!  We couldn't have done it without you!

 About our Staff:

Dr. Patreece Q. Lanier, DVM from Charlotte, NC serves as the owner of the Clinic for purposes of complying with the licensure requirements in the state of North Carolina.  The equipment and building are owned by HSUC.  Dr. Lanier has worked in the veterinary medical field since May of 1999.  Currently Dr. Lanier is employed at Crossroads Animal Hospital in Dallas, NC.  Before Crossroads, she worked for Compassionate Care Veterinary Hospital in Charlotte, NC, formerly Sardis Animal Clinic and prior to that she worked for the Humane Society of Charlotte Spay-Neuter Clinic.

As of September 1, 2011 we are pleased to announce Dr. Laurence Toyer, our full time Veterinarian Surgeon, who will be performing all of the surgical procedures.  He received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Tuskegee University School of Veterinary Medicine, Tuskegee, AL.  Dr. Toyer is a native of the Washington D.C. metropolitan area.  He is currently licensed to practice in Virginia as well as North Carolina.  He looks forward to meeting the spay/neuter needs of the Union County/Monroe residents, as well as those who seek our services from neighboring counties.
We are excited to have Drew Skinner, RVT, as our clinic manager.  He graduated from Appalachian State University with a B.S. in Criminal Justice and B.S. in Anthropology.  He later attended Gaston College where he received A.A.S. Veterinary Medical Technology.  Drew is currently certified with the NC Veterinary Medical Board and has his Veterinary Technician National Certification.   Drew worked as an Animal Control Officer for the Charlotte Police Department for six years and has worked as a registered veterinary technician for the past four years.
Sylvia Peters is our bilingual receptionist and we are excited to have her on board.  Sylvia has experience gained from previously working in this field.  Carson Almond and Sara Vermeulen are our two veterinary assistants who have several years experience and bring with them a great deal of knowledge and expertise and we are proud to have on the team.  We are extremely fortunate to have all these skilled people in our employ.
