| Gas Chambers Are Inhumane, No Exceptions! |

Often we hear from people, sometimes even people in rescue, that say “Oh no, I can't look at that!”, “I do not want to see dogs or cats suffering or being euthanized.”, or “It’s so sad, so upsetting.” Yes, it is sad, and very upsetting, but we believe that in order to change something, first you must acknowledge there is something wrong, something worthy of change. Many times we have read in newspapers or heard others talk about using the gas chamber versus lethal injection to kill unwanted pets, mostly dogs and cats. We read or hear “the gas chamber is humane, it is quick, that it is equal to putting an animal to sleep using lethal injection.” One of the Humane Society of Union County's (HSUC) core beliefs is Gas Chambers are Inhumane, Period. No Exceptions! Please, everyone reading this, Google the name Doug Fakkema. He has done extensive research on gas chambers vs. lethal injection. Read about answers to some of the arguments offered in defense of the gas chamber over lethal injection and we believe you will find for yourselves, the arguments have no merit! Shelters that use only sedation then lethal injection would never, ever consider switching to a gas chamber! Would you ever consider having your pet euthanized in a gas chamber?
We believe this photograph says it all. These dogs are speaking to all of us! Look at them! Cry for them and all others that are gassed. Can anyone viewing this photograph honestly believe this method of euthanasia (latin for a 'good death') is humane? In the photo notice at least ten dogs not separated, all different sizes/weights, in a grotesque heap inside a stainless steel box. We see no dignity, no compassion, do you? There was no 'good death' for these dogs. We, ALL OF US, owe animals the most compassionate, respectful end to their lives as possible. People need to look at this photo and say No More Gas Chambers! Not one more dog or cat, puppy or kitten should be subjected to this. |
