Spay-Neuter Grant given to The Humane Society of Union County, Inc. MONROE NC -- Union County residents may see fewer cats and dogs wandering around in the next year as a result of the Humane Society of Union County’s receipt of a $25,000 grant received through The Foundations For the Carolinas. Sue Ratliff, president of the Humane Society said her group welcomed the opportunity this grant affords. Spay and neuter costs are not currently subsidized in Union County and with these funds the Humane Society will be able to cut the costs for any county resident.
“Our goal is to spay and neuter as many animals as possible and a partnership with Animal Allies was the quickest, most cost effective way to do it”, said Ratliff. Recognizing the county’s serious pet over-population problem compounded by the area’s tremendous growth in population prompted Board Member Susan Syphard and the organization to apply for the grant in late October of 2006. By year end the grant was in-hand and plans in place to begin the work in early 2007. County response has exceeded expectations and additional transports have been added to accommodate the need. For more information on this program, please call the Humane Society’s Spay/Neuter phone line at 704-989-0912. You will be asked to leave your name and phone number and a representative will contact you to discuss the program and schedule an appointment. http://www.petrescue.com/spay-neuter.htm |
