In 2007 over 275 animals passed through the loving hands of HSUC members and volunteers into responsible forever homes.

tiny paws...Those involved are very aware of the time, effort and expense involved in the rescue of each.  It is a lengthy process focusing on quality foster homes providing food, love and companionship or immediate transport to a vet or rescue organization that is coordinated with organizations throughout the Southeast.  Many work full time but still find time to relieve the suffering of defenseless creatures that God has entrusted to our care.

This year's "stat" sheet reveals only a glimpse into the work involved in rehabilitating our animals.  Stats include 24+ animals received from the Union County Animal Shelter.  Of those, most required heartworm treatments or expensive surgeries for injuries.  In a county with so many unwanted pets and without our help, these animals would have been needlessly euthanized.  At first glimpse, most would not consider these animals adoptable.  What a difference love, vet care, and a great foster home can make!  Our vet bills this year have already exceeded $20K+.  We have also begun to fund spay / neuter assistance to the public on an individual basis as funds allow.

tiny paws...HSUC assisted with the rescue of five hurricane dogs and provided supplies to other rescue groups toward their hurricane relief efforts.  We have funded leg amputations and mended broken legs; hugged and kissed them all until we found the "just right" home (all potential adopters are screened for responsibility and home environment and adaptability).  No animal is adopted without being spayed or neutered or signing a spay / neuter agreement - no exceptions!  This is done at our expense.  Priding ourselves on quality vet care, we ensure every animal is healthy and up to date on vaccinations when adopted.

Our PetSmart Adoption Program has been an overwhelming success and exceeded expectations.  We depend on volunteers to daily feed and care for our cats.  It is no small task and we could not achieve it without the combined efforts from those who care.

To all of you who assist in our efforts - thru phone calls, e-mails, transports, grooming and fostering, please accept our heartfelt thanks.  However, we believe the animals, although they cannot speak, are the ones most thankful!

And to those of you who may think about helping - just do it.  Make your commitment based on what you have to give, no matter how little or great.  You will be rewarded ten times over!  If you cannot afford time to help, please consider a charitable gift.
